Tongariro Alpine Crossing

Tongariro National Park is New Zealand’s oldest national park and a dual World Heritage Site. The Tongariro National Park is rich in both cultural identity and dramatic, awe-inspiring natural scenery. Unique landforms, including the volcanic peaks of Ngauruhoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu ensure the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is considered a world renowned trek. Join Playschool on this once in a lifetime experience exploring and conquering the Tongariro crossing where you will have the opportunity to explore remote areas showcasing NZ’s natural and unspoilt beauty during this 7 – 8 hour medium difficulty hike.

What to Expect

Tongariro National Park is located a 4 and a half hour drive from Auckland so we won’t arrive into our accommodation until late Friday evening. We will be staying in a house in the heart of National Park which can sleep up to 14 people. Saturday will be an early start in order to complete the 7 8 hour track . Enjoy free time on Saturday night recovering or perhaps making new friends at the local bar. After breakfast on Sunday we will make our way back to Auckland via lake Taupo where we will stop for lunch before arriving back at the Playschool office at around 2pm. Please ensure you bring with you the following; Rain proof coat, warm clothing, sturdy walking boots, 2 large water bottles, sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks and alcohol.

When: Departing Friday 16th Feb at 6pm sharp. Return Sunday 18th Feb at approx. 2 pm.
Meet: at the Playschool office located at 72 Apollo Drive, Albany
Cost: $185/ person. Includes transport to and from Tongariro, 2 nights accommodation in a house, return crossing transfers, all meals including 2 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts plus hiking snacks.
